Obituary for Rene Smith Keeney

On Wednesday, July 12, 2017, Rene S. Keeney, 87, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, at Pleasant Acres Nursing and Rehabilitation in York. He was the husband of Lorraine B. (Kopp) Keeney for 64 years.

Rene was born May 27, 1930 in Shrewsbury to the late John Z. and Edna R. (Smith) Keeney. He attended New Freedom High School then served in the US Marines Corps. He worked for Utz Quality Foods, Inc. for 22 years before retiring in 1994. He was a member of Starview Sportsmen's Association. Rene enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading, bird watching and just being outdoors and appreciating nature.

Surviving him is his wife; children, Rosemary (Daniel) Alumbaugh, Brian (Christine) Keeney and Cheryl Keeney (Timothy Ness); 3 grandsons, Joseph, Christopher and John; 4 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Beverly (Paul) King. He is preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Delores Baker.

Public visitation will be from 11am until a funeral service starts at 1pm on Tuesday, July 18 at J.J. Hartenstein Mortuary, Inc., 24 N. Second St., New Freedom. Interment will follow in Mt. Prospect Cemetery, Seven Valleys. Rev. Katie Brantner will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory are recommended to the Starview Sportsmen’s Association, 501 Jerusalem School Rd., Mt. Wolf, PA 17347.
