Obituary for Martin J. "Ducky" Knecht Jr.

Martin J. "Ducky" Knecht, Jr., 95, died May 10, 2017, at SpiriTrust Lutheran-Shrewsbury. He was the husband of the late Mary Elizabeth (Ebberts) Knecht.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday, May 16, from 12:30-1:30 p.m. at the J.J. Hartenstein Mortuary, Inc., 19 S. Main St., Stewartstown. A funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. from St. John (Sadler's) Lutheran Church, 2916 Sadler's Church Road, Stewartstown. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery with military rites offered by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. The Reverend Dr. E. Gordon Ross will be officiating.

Martin was born October 5, 1921, in Baltimore, MD, a son of the late Martin J. and Rita E. (Shanahan) Knecht, Sr. He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving in both World War II and the Korean War. Martin retired in 1981 following 31 years with the former R.E. Linder Steel Erection Co., Inc. of Baltimore. He was a member of the Operating Engineers Local #37 of Baltimore, a member of the Stewart American Legion Post # 455 of Stewartstown, a charter member of VFW Post #3244 in Halethorpe, MD, and a member of St. John (Sadler's) Lutheran Church of Stewartstown.

Surviving are children, Martin J. Knecht III of Fawn Grove, and Geraldine M. Morrow of Stewartstown; three grandchildren, Thomas E. Morrow of Leesburg, VA, Timothy C. Morrow of Cockeysville, MD and Jessica K. Lopez of Leaders Heights; a great grandson, Trent Martin Lopez; and a brother, John A. Knecht of Baltimore. Martin was preceded in death by three brothers, Harry Knecht, Daniel Knecht and Joseph Knecht; three sisters, DeSalles Ring, Rita Moxley and Alice Jarboe; and a grandson, Todd J. Morrow.
