Obituary for Margaret L. Brown (Lowe)

Margaret L. Brown, 87, died peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family, Wednesday, March 1, 2017.

Born in Fawn Township she was the daughter of Edgar and Mary (Wilson) Lowe. Margaret moved two miles from her family farm to the farm of Joseph M. Brown whom she married in 1949. They would have celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary next month.

Margaret attended Fawn Township Vocational High School and graduated from Delta High School in 1947. She then attended Thompson's Business School in York before beginning her first job in the office of the Stewartstown Furniture Factory. After her marriage, Margaret left her office job and began her life of leisure as a farm wife. She soon became an important part of the success of Brown Croft Farm. Margaret helped her husband in all aspects of the farm operation. She could be found driving a tractor, selling the farm's produce, doing the payroll and raising three children. She managed to do this and still have a hot meal on the table at noon seven days a week. A neighbor once said that Margaret was the "hub" of the farm around which everything revolved and on whom everyone depended.

As you can see, Margaret had little time for hobbies or other activities but she enjoyed music and time spent with family and friends. Many people remarked that she always had a smile on her face and was ready for a good laugh.

In addition to her husband, Margaret is survived by her daughter, Jo Ann Clement and her husband, Paul; David Brown and his wife, Laurie, and Russell Brown, all of Fawn Grove. She also leaves behind five grandchildren, Joseph Clement, Allison Brown, Cameron Brown, Amanda Brown, and Nathan Brown and his wife, Emily. She was preceded in death by her brother, Charles Lowe.

Margaret was a member of Centre Presbyterian Church (83 New Park Rd., New Park PA 17352) where a funeral service will be held on Monday, March 6, 2017 at 12 noon. The family will receive relatives and friends beginning at 11 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will be in the Centre Cemetery.

The family would like to thank their neighbors and friends in the community for the help and kindness received during Margaret's illness. Also, they would like to say a special thank you to Lisa and Mary Lou.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Centre Church Memorial Fund, in care of Judy Harrison, 5434 Rocks Rd., Pylesville, MD 21132.
